I was fortunate to perform two wonderful musicians this year at the Galway Flute Festival in Weggis, Switzerland. The first recital was with Karl-Heinz Schutz who is principal solo flute of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. He is a wonderful sensitive chamber music player and it was a real thrill to perform Bach, Prokoffiev, Dutilleux and Andersen with him. The second recital was with the French legend Maxence Larrieu. Together with this charming flautist we performed Bach, Mozart and Debussy. It was a real honour to play with both of these fantastic musicians.

Right after playing for the Canadian Flute Convention I went straight into playing for the Whole Musician retreat. This even took place at the same venue in Toronto. It was great to work with this wonderful bunch of people and meeting the participants from all over the world.          This weekend I was one of the official pianists at the Canadian Flute Convention in Toronto. It was a very busy weekend for me as I played 13 concerts in 4 days! But it was great fun to play with these talented flute players from all over the world, including Michel Bellavance, Viviana Guzman, Nicole Esposito, Niall O'Riordan and Nora Schulman.              Niall and I had a very successful whirlwind tour of South Africa. We gave concerts in Pretoria, Hermanus, Cape Town, Franschhoek and Johannesburg. We also presented workshops at the University of Pretoria and University of Cape Town. We both had a great time and hope to go back for a slightly longer time next time! This year was the 10th anniversary of the Adams Flute Festival in The Netherlands. As part of the celebration, I performed in the Gala Concert with Sir James Galway.  I performed a lecture recital with flautist Niall O'Riordan and Samantha Chang at the 10th Adams Flute Festival in Ittervoort, The Netherlands. It was great fun as we performed the recital in Victorian period costumes.      Enjoyed playing at St Mary's Church in Aylesbury with flautist Niall O'Riordan. Beautiful warm piano and lovely audience.

This weekend I accompanied masterclasses and a concert with Niall O'Riordan at the Hampshire Flute Day in Romsey. It was wonderful to work with these enthusiastic youngsters and Carrie Hensel did a great job organising the event and conducting the various flute choirs. |
